A Short Essay From the Book:

On the News Six Days After[1]
Fat necked politicians point soft-palmed, un-calloused fingers,
Blame, as useless as regret or jealousy, from the
Comfort and safety of their air-conditioned
Offices and leather swivel chairs.
While those rough men take an infant
Like a squealing goat from its mother
Offer so gently, pass the baby over the
Razored concertina wire wrapped wall
Holds off machetes & well-funded
Guns raised to mow down each subvert
If breathing is subversive, all my
Breath leaves me as I watch, helpless. The baby’s cry
Audible over ruin. The soldier hollering I’ve got you.
I’ve got you.
